photography and i

it's never been about competition or producing better pictures than the next guy. i just capture the moment because i like it, and interpretation is entirely up to the viewer.

photography for me is not a hobby, a passion, or a way to make a living. it's my meditation time; my me-time. which is why i mostly do it alone in the middle of the night, don't join forums and competitions, know only the most basic of photoshop, don't know most of my camera's technical details, see no urgent need to increase my inventory, and never bother with a portfolio. this is also why some people don't like my shots; because i see beauty and naturality where they see warped smiles and flabby arms.

it's only when you review and reflect that you see how you've changed. i include less subjects in my photos now. or i can argue that my pictures now focus more on singular narratives. depends on which side you stand on.

these are from two years ago, from tampines and changi.

if i told you my style is a derivative of sacrifice and anguish, would you want to adopt my mental state in exchange for a "different" perspective?

now there's a conundrum.
